Ebay showed return when still in transit
I had a buyer return a blouse but eBay showed the item returned two days before it actually arrived to me. Once eBay showed it delivered to me I checked the USPS tracking and it said it was still two days away. Why would that happen and why would eBay do this? It caused eBay to automatically refund the buyer before I even had a chance to verify that the item was returned to me.

I'd guess it's a tracking data error glitch.
As long as you get it back before your time runs out to submit the refund, you're all good.
HOWEVER, if time is running out PLEASE contact eBay CS. If you don't refund within 2 business days after receiving the return (PER EBAY) you could get a defect on your account for failing to resolve the issue voluntarily.

OPSep 19, 2026 at 12:03 AMThat really my concern that I get a mark against me. I got the item back and all is fine there but eBay sent an auto message saying that they refunded the buyer and to remember next time to refund in a timely manner. The hell eBay?

eBay doesn't track packages. They display the tracking information sent to them by the carrier based on the scans received during transit. It sounds like somehow the package was mis-scanned by the carrier.
If the tracking eBay receives says delivered, As far as eBay knows, the package is delivered.
If there is another scan showing delivery two days later, contact eBay to ask them to remove the defect. You can use the contact link at the bottom of this page:

Type the word Agent in the chat box. You may have to repeat this request a few times before you receive the option to request a callback.
