ebay shipping discount
So just a question, if eBay is now passing on the seller shipping discount to the customer, is the seller no longer being charged a fee on shipping costs? Cause this would only make sense. And those using CALCULATED SHIPPING BY eBay cannot dodge the selling fee by asking crazy amounts for shipping (which BTW was why you eBay in your wisdom decided all sellers where dodging the selling fee this way) ... What say you eBay?

OP2 years agoBut don't you feel that eBay charging sellers a fee on shipping is unfair? I have been selling since 1995. Always charged buyers actual shipping, there was no discount on shipping just the charge. To me this seems the fairest way. But I know that the change was made as some sellers where charging huge rates on shipping to avoid paying eBay's Fees. I don't like being charged a fee on money that I do not see. And yes I hear you I can change to not pass on the discount. But I would rather just charge the actual cost of shipping.

·2 years ago@curlywillow1972 I hear you. Consider this: If eBay didn't charge the final value fee on the total, and only on the item price like in the old days, they would just charge an even higher percentage for fees.
Either way we'd be paying the same amount in fees. It's a cost of doing business just like any other cost.
For calculated shipping I pass on the discount to buyers (like you, I like being able to say I only charge the actual cost of shipping), and set prices so that they cover the cost of fees (and other business costs).
This is a good discussion, but the Ask a Mentor board is meant more for answering practical questions and less for having longer interesting discussions, so may I suggest a discussion on this topic on the Selling Discussion Board instead.

From my understanding ... sellers will be able to opt out of this new 'enhancement'. 😊

·2 years agoHi @curlywillow1972 This is a member-to-member help board, so we're buyers and sellers like you, and can't speak for eBay.
EBay has always given sellers the option to pass along the discount on shipping to buyers, long before they started charging final value fees on shipping costs.
This change just reverses the previous default setting. The previous default setting charged buyers the full shipping amount, and we had to change the setting to pass the discount on to buyers.
Now the default setting passes the discount on to buyers, and we will have to opt out to change the setting to charge buyers the full amount.
If you use calculated shipping, you can choose to either:
