ebay shipping charge vs cost at Post Office
I got a surprise today when I shipped some items. Buyer paid $15.55 for USPS Priority for an item going to 85714. My zip is 92118.
Weight is 7lbs. Dimensions are 19 x 12 x 11.
The actual cost at the USPS was $22.05 for Priority, which is about the same when I run a manual calculation through the USPS shipping calculator.
I can't figure out where the error is. The only thing that makes sense is that the ebay shipping calculator is wrong.
Any ideas?

You are charging your buyers the eBay discounted rate. This is the rate you pay when you buy your label through eBay. The cost will always be higher at the PO - that is the retail price.
If you don’t have a printer, and your PO can not handle printing your labels from QR codes, change your setting to not share your discount with your buyers. Check the setting again after 5/15 - eBay is changing the default to share your discount unless you opt out. If they can handle it, then you buy your label through eBay, but select QR code instead of printing.

If you have a printer, purchase your labels through eBay and attach them to your packages with tape all around but not covering the bar code. If you don’t have a printer, ask the folks at your PO if they handle QR code printing - they may even have a machine set up in the lobby to do this for you.

OP2 years agoYou are the bomb!!!!
I just checked my preferences and you are spot on. I do not remember turning on the discount, but it has been a few months since I've sold something.
Thank you!

You are very welcome 🙂
eBay is working on making the discounted rate the default, so it is possible that they made it the default when you started selling again.
