Ebay shipping calculations confusing
When I set up an item for sale, I enter appropriate shipping information. For example, my item weighs 2lb 16oz, is 16"x8x9. When I click on apply, it defaults to zero pounds and the sizes don't reflect what I entered. Also, why can't I enter a price that would be the same no matter where it's shipped. It seems the only option available is based on which zone it's shipped to. Another example of confusion is regarding an item that weighs less than a pound with a box that's 9x6x2". I was charged more than $7 for a label. Shouldn't this have gone via first class at less than a few bucks? I have a postage scale so my calculations should be correct. I'm tempted to take all my shipments directly to the post office rather than accept Ebay's label prices.

Some things to note:
Shipping is the trickiest part of selling when you're new. It won't take long before you learn all the ins and outs, so just keep at it. You can ask questions here anytime you get stuck.

OP3 years agoAs it turns out, the postage Ebay showed was correct. However, I'm confused that when I enter an actual weight and size, the calculator overrides that and creates its own. There doesn't seem to be a point for entering my info if the calculator doesn't accept reality.

Mentor3 years agoI use calculated shipping and create listings almost daily. I have not had any problems with eBay taking the parameters I set up if they are valid. So let's try to figure out if you are doing something wrong.
As I mentioned, 16 ounces equals a pound. So instead of entering 2 lbs 16 oz, enter 3 lbs. Is that the item you are having a problem with?
Can you provide a screenshot of the parameters you are entering into the listing form?
