eBay sellers using fake locations to gain sales
When creating an eBay account eBay's website will ask you where you're located at. It seems that there are a very very high number of sellers which are purposely lying about their location.
I'm pretty sure everybody knows where I'm going with this.
I'll try to be brief
When doing searches for a certain items are pretty much just about every item on eBay to be honest, it seems that China is now the biggest if not one of the biggest sellers on eBay but they're lying about their location.
Even if you click on the about page and look at the person's location most of the time they're lying.
You won't figure out that they're lying until you actually purchased item and you start to see where the item is coming from.
Even if the item is coming from places like New Jersey or Florida or other places, you'll notice that they're coming from a location which is a known drop shipping location for Chinese sellers.
This is a serious problem here on eBay.
One of the problems that ends up happening is if the buyer ends up receiving complete garbage which is usually what happens when China ends up sending you something, you open a dispute up and the China seller tries to somehow talk you into ending the dispute by offering you a couple of dollars off, or they tell you that you have to pay for the return shipping.
This opens up a huge problem.
Basically what I'm saying is that the problems that eBay is creating for its customer base or stacking up over and over and over and it's now so overwhelming that people just don't want to come here anymore. And to be honest after purchasing one item and realizing that it was from China I'm going to go ahead and bow out of purchasing here again.
Again it's not that the items are just from China, it's that these Chinese sellers are selling knock off fake items. And when you open up a dispute I want to get your money back you got to sit here at your computer waiting for days sometimes weeks for any progress to occur because of the way eBay has set up there dispute process.
Let's compare that to Amazon's dispute process where you could literally take the item and drop it off at a UPS store the same day you got it and you'll get a refund either within 30 minutes or a few days.
I believe if eBay doesn't end up changing things drastically they're going to end up being on the wrong side of the internet history...

As a buyer if you want all your searches to be limited to a "US only" or "North America" Item location by default, there is a way to accomplish this.
If you use the eBay app, you can do this by first enabling "Lockable Filters" in the Filter Customize menu. Then, select an item location filter option and you should see a lock icon appear. Tap the lock icon so it turns blue and locks to set that as your default search option. From then, all your searches should include that filter option until you unlock or change it.
Using a browser, the lockable filter option is not available. But if you use certain desktop browsers, you may be able to use a third party browser add-on called "eBay item location -- my country only" which allows you to override eBay's "default" item location setting.
Note that when searching, if a US-only search finds few results, eBay may provide additional results after the formal search results, showing additional items available from international sellers. If you are scrolling quickly, you may miss the delineation between the two sections.
Probably the best way to deal with sellers that misrepresent item location is to avoid them. The "US only" item location filter selects items that are listed as being in the United States; however, as you have seen, not every seller that lists items in the US ships from the US as they should.
Before ordering you should check the estimated delivery dates -- that is a good indication of where items actually ship from. Also, going to a seller's profile page or feedback page will tell you where the seller's account was registered. Although some overseas sellers do use US warehouses to ship their items (and some registered US-sellers may employ overseas drop-shippers), if a seller is registered overseas, that raises the likelihood of an item shipping from outside the US, particularly for multiple quantity commodity items. Checking seller feedback will often reveal if there are problems with long shipping times, canceled orders or other supply chain warning signs.

OP11 months agoThat doesn't work. You can choose the country you want to do business with but if the seller.lies and puts in his eBay page that he or she is in the your country then you get deceived..
Kinda like for example,
When I wanted to buy some spark.pligs only from USA..
I choose USA only as search results.
Then to be double sure I would clock on about page of seller.
Then I would look at location on auction page.
Even thought they put USA.. the item was coming from China..
Deception runs deep on this website and eBay does nothing about this ..
So . I don't think I'll be buying much of anything else in here..

Mentor11 months agoYou are searching by "Item location" -- which information is provided by the seller and may not be accurate. eBay does not provide searching by "seller location" directly, only "item location".
When you find an item you are considering purchasing, check the seller's feedback page to see where the seller's account is registered. If the seller is registered in a country like the US, that means that the seller must have a bank account in that country. That does not prove that the seller always ships from the US, but it is an indication.
Many sellers claim to ship from the US, but are actually registered in other countries; those sellers can be avoided by checking the seller's feedback page.

Sellers may lie about many things, but they cannot lie to eBay about having a bank account with a US street address and still get paid.
You can choose to use this information to your advantage, or you can ignore it at your peril.
That does not mean that there are not sellers with US addresses and US bank accounts that are drop-shipping from overseas, but those are not the folks that are lying about their own locations you seem to be complaining about.

Many seller on eBay are lying about there location..
They will usually put a big USA flag in the picture to act like they are selling from USA . They are from China.. recently the newest loop hole they found out about is that people were looking at the about page of the account to see if the account was created in China or some other country but eBay, in all it's stupidity allows you to literally out whatever you want as the country and even put what ever you want as the zip code you are selling items from .
You could be a seller in China or Russia yet still put that you are in USA.
You could be a seller in Florida but put that you are seller in berlihills.
In fact you could sell an item in eBay and attempt to make the eBay computers NOT allow anyone outside a specific.area , bid on your item..doesn't work!
Know what else doesn't work?
Repeating over and over that I must be wrong blah blah .cause I have just 1 feedback..
You don't know me..I could have or have had many accounts..cause eBay let's that slide also..
