eBay Search is Flawed. Does not return what the buyer is asking search for...
I am searching on Vintage Clock Radio. I received a return of nearly 6,000 items. I edited my search and put "Clock Radio" in quotes. I am still getting thousands of clocks (no radio). How does one get eBay to search for specific terms and not send back thousands of unrelated items (a huge time waster).

Try this as a starting point for your search:
https://www.ebay.com/sch/261603/i.html?_nkw=clock-radio&_from=R40&LH_PrefLoc=2&Type=Clock%2520Radio&_dcat=261603&_sop=10
From there you can narrow by time period, which should allow you to see old clock radios even if they do not contain the vintage keyword.
I think the issue you may be having has to do with the way that the eBay categories are organized; there is a category called "Alarm Clocks & Clock Radios", and since two-thirds of your keywords are in the category name, any listings in that category that contain the word vintage would be considered a match by eBay, even if there was no radio term in the listing itself.
Luckily, there is also a "Clock radio" Item-specific under Type in that category, which should match only... actual clock radios.
