eBay rules and guidelines
Why is it against eBay policy to invite a potential customer to go to my website or to simply email me to purchase an item rather than go through my eBay store? Furthermore, what are the consequences from eBay for doing that?

Isn't it obvious?
eBay wants their services used for all aspects of every exchange of goods and money that is listed on eBay.
You use their facilities, you agree to abide by their rules.
Much like the reason why movie theaters tell people that no "outside" food and beverages are allowed.
They want you to buy the expensive soda and candy at the concessions counter in the lobby.
Most restaurants don't allow you to bring in your own casseroles or cakes either.
Consequences for continued violation of eBay's rules are eventual banning from eBay's site. Period.
