Ebay requested that I give them my social security number because I exceeded the $600.00 threshold?
Ebay requested that I give them my social security number because I exceeded the $600.00 threshold. I’ve sold three items this year all in the past 3 months. Ebay states that my total for the past 90 days was $590.63 . When I go to the seller page that list the items sold since the beginning of the year and I add what the buyer paid plus shipping I get a total of $558.07. My question is. Why did Ebay request my social security number when it appears that I have not exceeded the $600.00 threshold? The second question is . Why is there a difference between the $590.63 and the $558.07 ?

The amount includes what the total amount your buyers paid which includes shipping charges.
You will need to furnish your social security number if you want to continue selling on Ebay.
You are responsible to report all income to the IRS regardless of receiving any tax forms from Ebay.
