ebay purchase followed by email phish
I received a suspicious email about an order.
-I had ordered the item using my personal email, but the phish was sent to my business's email
-the sender of the email was Reba Adams, from a gmail address with someone else's name, not contacts of mine
- the subject used the name of the item I ordered, but with a different order number
- the attachment pretended to be a Paypal receipt for a new iphone 15 and gave a phone number to call
- omg I just realized I stupidly opened the attachment! What do I do now?
I'm not kidding. I just realized I shouldn't have done that.
I have a mac laptop
Any advice welcome!
I alerted the seller and sent them this:
"I don't shop in ebay often so I don't know if this might be a security issue for your shop, or ebay in general, or Paypal but it's sure creepy!
I used my personal gmail for this order, but the phish was sent to my work email!
The phish mentions paypal but I believe I used a card for the purchase.
The attachment to the phish shows an iPhone purchase, not the ornament.
I checked my paypal and there is no charge listed.
I don't have the sender (Reba) in my contacts.
I am not calling the number listed.
I don't understand the intent.
I guess I will try to send this info to Paypal as well, and change all my passwords again...
It's a sad day when you order a Christmas ornament and then get a hit from the Dark Web!
Anyway, just thought you'd like to know this happened with one of your sales.
Let me know if I need to do anything further.
I look forward to receiving my ornament.
Patrice
