Ebay platform erroneously ordered a product in my stead!
12/26/24 I purchased a Wacom tablet. My credit card was charged $55, a second later I was charged again, $55. I assumed (incorrectly) I was double charged. Contacted seller he assured me I wasn't double charged. So, I contacted Capital one and put a hold on the second charge. I later received paperwork from capital one with an Ebay defense summary. I was astonished to discover I was charged $55 for a metal bar order # 06-12508-05719 item # 224003623559. I didn't order the bar and didn't realize that's what the second charge was on my capital one account.
I did order that bar two years ago and I received it. I also just received the second bar that I didn't order. I was only on the gentlemen's site selling the Wacom tablet never on the site selling the metal bar. I would like to return the bar to the merchant. I also want to understand how this could have happened as I am currently afraid of using Ebay until I get this figured out. There is no Ebay customer service so here I am.

Mentor1 year agoSounds like you opened a chargeback. The seller might have sent a second one to make their buyer happy (just guessing here). Your chargeback cost the seller money in addition to being out the item.
When you make a charge, the amount is held until the actual charge goes through. All credit card companies do this in order to hold their funds. Once the original charge comes in, the hold is released. It may look like 2 charges, but it is not. This is especially visible on weekends and holiday when the charges take longer to process due to banks being closed on weekends/holidays.

Since you already asked Capital One to step in, Ebay cannot help you.
