Ebay overcharged me for shipping!!!!!
I recently sold my item, I had the buyer pay for the shipping. They paid $6.09. When I created the label I never put in the correct dimensions of the shipping box. It increased the price of shipping to $11.04. It said that their would be $6.09 in my funds to cover some of the shipping. It took the 11.04 from my sale of 43.58 instead $4.95, the amount to cover the rest of the shipping.
I explained this to a ebay customer service and they actually told me to say to the buyer to send the addtional money for shipping, who already paid and received their purchase. I would never!! So where the hell did the 6.09 the amount the buyer paid to ship, it didn't go to me. Ebay totally screwed me and has my money right?

Sorry that customer service gave bad advice. You are correct that you shouldn't ask the buyer for more shipping money after a sale is complete, it's actually against eBay policy.
Standard First class shipping is no longer a tracked shipping option, that's what you had on the listing. eBay allows sellers to use that shipping method when creating a listing in case they want to ship at the postage office with stamps. eBay shipping labels all have tracking.
You should have shipped the book with Media Mail or USPS Ground Advantage.
You'll have to chalk this up to what I call "eBay tuition" for learning how eBay works. I paid a bit of "tuition" when I was first selling.

That's what I figured customer service is no help and should not waste my time with this.
The buyer chose to ship with ground advantage. When I make a listing I'm not given a chose to ship other than free shipping or local pickup

Mentor2 years ago@secondlifeny. The buyer can only choose the shipping methods you offer on the listing.
The listing had first class mail which is only available at the post office without tracking.
Since eBay labels do not offer untracked shipping the only option was to use Ground Advantage. Usps no longer has tracked first class package rates. Ground advantage now combines 1st class package, parcel select and retail ground.
