EBay over-charging VAT at 20% on collector numismatic coins
Has anyone worked successfully with eBay to correct their default over-charging on the import into UK of collector coins which should be charged at 5% not 20% VAT? The eBay global shipping platform doesn’t appear to account for this, yet offers no workaround for buyers.
Coins which are of numismatic interest are classed as collectors' items. Such items are classified within the harmonised system with commodity code 9705 00 00 00. The effective VAT applicable to these coins at import is 5%.
To complete a UK customs BOR286 form to reclaim for incorrectly applied VAT, requires the supply of detailed VAT paperwork from eBay - is this an option? Has anyone successfully reclaimed?
