eBay not showing accepted offer sold prices
I'm starting to see small details in eBay's tactical methods to gain money from potential customers. May I emphasize, dishonest tactical methods..
Like for example I'm seeing ungodly prices. I'm talking about $5,000 for a 40-year-old car stereo that has no business being anywhere close to $5,000.
This is just one item but there's literally thousands of items like this. Apparently it's gotten so bad that people are making YouTube videos and Facebook comments about these unbelievably high prices of items here on eBay.
A lot of these items are using the buy it now feature. But they're also using the offer but..
What I'm seeing after doing my research is that sometimes and possibly most of the time, the seller with their ridiculous prices will accept a much much lower price but eBay will not show the price to item sold for. Instead eBay will show the item being sold at the original asking price.
That $5,000 price for a 30 or 40-year-old car stereo may have sold for $25. But no one will ever know because eBay will show the $5,000 price tag even after the item sold. eBay may show that the offer button was used and the offer was accepted but still they're hiding the actual price to item of sold for which is in my opinion very dirty and unethical..
I tried to figure out why eBay would do this and I'm going to assume that the only reason eBay is doing this is because eBay is trying to get others to believe that the asking price was the actual price that the item sold for and because of this eBay thinks that they are going to get other people to purchase items for that ridiculously high asking price. Would end up happening is a snowball effect. We're seeing this effect now. People are listing and relisting for very long periods of time, until they get either an offer they will accept or a person stupid enough to pay for a very high price. Either way no one will ever know what the actual item sold for. It seems to go against the whole idea of using the sold search tool which is supposed to tell us what items sold for. But again it's not telling you the full story. It's showing you something that is very skewed.
Personally I think this is a disgusting and deplorable method to gain try to business. In the long run it's just going to hurt eBay. This is a dishonest way of doing things.
One last thing before I go on this topic. People will claim that the price is acceptable because someone will probably pay for it. How would you know? Show me an item where you absolutely know for sure that it was sold and the seller did not refund the buyer immediately or cancel the auction because the buyer was actually a friend a co-worker or a fake account that is trying to mess with the future prices of certain items that sellers are trying to dump on eBay..
I'm sure you will get what I'm saying. I'm sure you understand what I'm talking about.
Overall I'm just saying that this isn't good it doesn't look good at all it's super shady.
It's already bad enough eBay has a bad name for itself when it comes to certain subjects but this here is really really bad. Especially when people are posting videos of it on the internet as if eBay is now a joke.
