eBay Mandatory Fine Jewelry Authentication Process Loss
eBay didn't provide an option for the new 'fine jewelry authentication' despite my being confident in the Seller and the photos and documentation for an item. The Seller provided the original box for the jewelry however eBay only provided the shipping address for this GIA authentication and instead of shipping me all items, including original jewelry box, they placed the jewelry in a cheap generic eBay jewelry pouch and withheld the original box. To me - and to many folks - original boxes have value. The original jewelry box was small enough to fit in the box the authenticator used for shipping so there was no excuse to not send it to me.
This mandatory process doesn't even seem legal. As of my payment, I was the owner of that jewelry. For eBay not to provide my shipping information to the Seller and force Seller to ship to a third party seems wrong. Especially as the Buyer/Owner it should have been my choice. And then for the third party to keep one of the items included with my purchase, that is wrong.
Something should be done about this flawed process. It will probably take a Buyer who is also an attorney to get this mandated process corrected.
