eBay is unreliable at best
Why does eBay lie about delivery details? Then, when you report a delivery problem to eBay the response is wait a week and then we’ll get involved. This is absolutely the last time I use eBay. So when you order from eBay, wait 2 weeks for the delivery, it doesn’t arrive, file for a refund, and wait 2 weeks for your money back. Worst customer service EVER.

The estimated delivery date that eBay displays on a listing is the transit time from the seller's location to yours plus the handling time the seller specifies. eBay has no control over carrier delays nor does the seller, however eBay does monitor seller performance and takes action if the seller doesn't consistently ship on time.
Before making a purchase, it's important to review the seller's feedback to see what other buyers are experiencing. Move on to a better seller if you see red flags.

OP2 years agoIf eBay has no control of delivery, then they need to get out of the business of pretending they do. No need to send emails to buyers about the status of delivery because it’s simply untrue. eBay should inform every customer that they have no clue when the packages will arrive, and that all they offer is a refund that could take up to 2 weeks to be returned. It’s called truth and explains why Amazon is dominating the marketplace.
FYI, I did check on the seller and they had good reviews. However, that was eBay’s rating and it’s clear that eBay is NOT to be trusted.

OP2 years agoYou are correct, move onto another seller. Pick a seller that has nothing to do with eBay.

Mentor2 years agoHi @appgmc_hdv09b17qj
eBay has never shipped a single thing … ever. And I have never seen where eBay pretends to control delivery.
eBay puts Estimated Delivery Dates in listings … and passes on tracking information from shipping companies’ websites.
With your strong feelings about eBay somehow doing you wrong … I strongly support your decision to purchase items from wherever you find shipping being handled better. We are here to help people navigate eBay more easily … but only people who want to use eBay. 🙂
[I personally haven’t experienced greater shipping issues on eBay than I have on other websites … and I’ve purchased hundreds of items over a 20-year period … but everyone’s experience is different.]

OP2 years agoThank for making my point. eBay does nothing. That’s crystal clear.

I don't see that anyone here made your point. It seems you came here with a view formed from one experience using eBay, and it doesn't seem that you have an interest in learning from experienced users what eBay provides for you and what they don't so that you know how things work.
You are sticking to your opinion so there is no need to discuss further. There are millions and millions of satisfied buyers on eBay. The bottom line is to shop where you feel most satisfied.
Have a great weekend!

Perhaps you have a suggestion about how eBay could have control over a package that is in the hands of USPS. I advised how the estimated delivery dates are calculated. eBay doesn't know where your package is, but they provide you with the tracking information they get from the various carriers. About 99% of the time, packages arrive within the estimated timeframe when the seller ships on time.
Amazon has a completely different business model from eBay's. For the most part, they deliver their own products on their own trucks from 100 distribution centers around the country. On eBay, millions of sellers ship their own items. eBay does not sell products, they sell ad space, help buyers and sellers come together, and facilitate many of the aspects of buying and selling.
I'm sorry you had a bad experience with your purchase.
