eBay is criminal in its seller shipping and makes it impossible to talk to a human
I have been an eBay seller for 20+ years. Maybe longer. I sold a set of used camera lenses and purchased the shipping for the items directly through eBay. I also purchased additional insurance coverage through eBay. I dropped off the item directly to a UPS store and this is scanned and verified. Now the lenses have gone missing. Likely stolen by the UPS store I dropped them off at. And now eBay is forcing me to refund the buyer. That is criminal and more people need to know about this dishonesty and complete lack of any protection for buyers. If they do not make this right I will never so much as use the site again and tell everyone I know to avoid selling ANYTHING on here.

OP1 year agoCAUTIONARY TALE TO ANY SELLER OUT THERE OR ANYONE WHO CAN LEARN FROM MY INJUSTICE
DO NOT USE eBay's internal shipping system to create labels. I've spent all morning and afternoon on the phone with both eBay and UPS to resolve this. The "Extra Coverage" you are purchasing via eBay is an illusion and not any actual insurance for the value of the parcel. UPS has no record of any extra insurance being purchased despite me showing screenshots, proof, records I did as much on eBay's site.
UPS is saying eBay is technically the "shipper" because I purchased the label through them. And all claims must be handled through them. EBay is absolving themselves of any blame or responsibly to make good on the insurance because they're claiming it's a UPS issue as the courier who lost the package.
Bottom line I'm out the $2,000 on my lenses and neither party is going to help me get the money back. At most I will be covered for the standard insurance of any typical UPS package. Which may amount to $100. I've been selling on eBay 24 years and will never do so again.
Be warned. Avoid this site and use other ones. Avoid using the internal shipping if you must sell here. Seller beware. You have no recourse if your parcel goes missing. eBay will NOT help you.

OP1 year agoI did add more. But in talking to UPS they don't honor or recognize the insurance eBay sells as having "more insurance" Which is criminal. Why would eBay pretend to sell extra liability coverage if UPS doesn't recognize or honor it. Frankly I need to lawyer up if eBay doesn't make this right. These were expensive camera lenses.

Is it possible that you added shipcover insurance instead of ups?
The insurance page says you can go up to $999 with ups, so it seems odd that ups would deny additional coverage existing if you bought the ups coverage. Not to say customer service people can give wrong answers, but did you try entering the amount of the coverage you purchased in the online claim processing?
I always used a third party insurer, so I have never dealt with ups on a claim.

OP1 year agoNot sure exactly what coverage eBay resells, but it's absolutely abhorrent they sell it via their shipping labels and then abandon you when something goes wrong. Either stand behind it, or just urge people to bypass eBay all together and buy their labels directly through UPS.
And of course eBay makes it IMPOSSIBLE to talk to a human, which is another point of frustration. How can a company the size of eBay be completely absent in every way to help people? Beyond frustrating. Lesson learned. Will never sell on eBay ever again. Between the obnoxious fees and complete lack of any support, there is no upside.

When you buy your label you have the option to add insurance from the carrier or from shipcover. Shipcover claims are filed through your label history page as described in the help page I linked for you.
To speak to customer service, use the link on the right side of this page “have us call you†- https://www.ebay.com/help/eua?id=5275&mkevt=1&mkpid
If you don't see 'have us call you', click chat. Then type contact an agent.

File a claim with ups for a missing package - your label included $100 of coverage unless you added more.
See the ups section here, and use the link to follow the workflow for a missing package -

If you added shipcover insurance, use the link on this same page to file a claim with them.
