eBay INCORRECTLY REMOVED MY TRADING CARD FOR VIOLATING THEIR Counterfeit policy appealing decision
Summary: yours2have shared a concern about eBay's removal of their listing for a Shohei Ohtani trading card, claiming it was incorrectly flagged as counterfeit. They provided evidence of the card's legitimacy and appealed to eBay for reinstatement. lady_madonna and comics-scifi-collectibles clarified the limitations of the discussion board and suggested contacting eBay customer service directly. yours2have later confirmed that an agent had acknowledged an error in eBay's A.I. detection system, and the case was escalated for further review.
I wrote to eBay regarding this so-called violation.... I am appealing this decision because the item removed is not counterfeit and does not violate eBay’s Counterfeit Item Policy. This is an authentic 2012 Japanese Shohei Ohtani high‑school era card, a legitimate trading card that is widely bought and sold on eBay.
Marketplace Evidence Supporting Authenticity:
There are 21 active listings of this exact card currently on eBay.
From June 22, 2026 through September 3, 2026, more than 45 identical copies have sold on eBay.
I have nine identical copies saved in my Watchlist, confirming that this card is actively circulating and recognized by multiple sellers.
This data shows that the item is commonly listed, commonly sold, and accepted across the marketplace. The removal appears to have been made in error, as the item aligns with what is permitted under eBay’s policies and does not meet the criteria for counterfeit or prohibited items.
I respectfully request reinstatement of the listing based on the documented evidence above.
any thoughts out there?

OP3 weeks agoFollow‑up: I spoke with an agent who reviewed and verified all the information I provided, made notes, and documented the issue. The supervisor acknowledged that my assessment was correct and confirmed that eBay’s A.I. software has a glitch that needs to be addressed. Because of this, the matter has now been escalated to a higher level for further review.

I understand that this is frustrating.
@lady_madonna was pointing out that eBay customer service does not read this board. This is a volunteer only board and we can not access accounts.
You can contact customer service to appeal, there is usually an appeal option on the removal notice.
However even if an agent says it's ok to relist they can NOT reset the bots so the item is removed again and you can be suspended.
I would not risk my account and sell the item elsewhere.
Here's how to contact a general customer service agent:
https://www.ebay.com/help/contact?type=ContactUs&topicId=4000
2. Select a category that best matches your problem.
3. Answer the chat bots question by stating what you need help with. Be brief, don't go into details.
4.Type AGENT ( you may have repeat steps 3 and 4)
5. Request a call back or live chat. (Note that the contact options vary depending on the topic and staffing availability)

OP3 weeks agoThank you for your information as this was what I was looking for earlier when I made my initial post.

Mentor3 weeks ago@yours2have I would recommend just asking how to appeal a removal or whatever you need help with then we can reply with the best advice sooner.

OP3 weeks agoI figured ending with “any thoughts out there?” would open the door for different ideas on how to approach eBay about this. I just wanted to invite all kinds of replies, not limit it to one angle

Mentor3 weeks ago@yours2have The Ask A Mentor board is locked to where only the person asking the question and a limited number of Mentor's can reply.
If you would like a discussion I recommend the selling board> https://community.ebay.com/forum/selling-57920/
The overall consensus is going to be do not relist or you can be suspended.

OP3 weeks agoLady_Madonna, your reply was not the answer I was looking for, nor the type of response needed for this situation. This issue is clearly an eBay system matter, and anyone familiar with how their automated review process works could have explained what likely caused the removal.
I have since confirmed that when a legitimate listing is removed under the counterfeit policy, it is often due to eBay’s A.I. detection software incorrectly flagging the item. This is an A.I. anomaly, not a seller violation. eBay allows sellers to appeal these automated errors, and doing so will prompt a manual review. If this happens to you—as it did to me—the correct action is straightforward: contact eBay, explain the A.I. error, and submit an appeal. That is the answer I was seeking and hoped someone might have provided as this is apparently an eBay occurence.

This is not Ebay Customer Service, we are volunteer mentors so we have no authority to judge Ebay's decision, nor can we take any action in the matter.
Good luck with your appeal.

OP3 weeks agoI was going to address to eBay with the following below but due to the character limitation (1000) I had to shorten my appeal to eBay...
Re: Appeal of Counterfeit Item Removal — 2012 Shohei Ohtani Japanese High‑School Era Card
I respectfully submit this appeal challenging the removal of my listing under eBay’s Counterfeit Item Policy. The action taken is not supported by the factual record or by the standards articulated in eBay’s Intellectual Property Policy and Counterfeit Item Policy (see: Intellectual property policy | eBay ).
I. Statement of Authenticity
The item in question is an authentic 2012 Japanese Shohei Ohtani high‑school era trading card, produced and distributed in Japan during Ohtani’s amateur career. It is not a replica, reprint, unauthorized copy, or counterfeit as defined under eBay’s policy.
II. Marketplace Evidence Demonstrating Legitimacy
Current marketplace data on eBay demonstrates that this card is widely recognized as legitimate:
21 active listings of the identical 2012 Shohei Ohtani Japan‑issued card are presently available on eBay.
Between June 22, 2026 and September 3, 2026, more than 45 identical copies have sold on eBay.
I personally have nine identical copies saved in my Watchlist, confirming that multiple sellers list this card without policy conflict.
This volume of active listings and completed sales establishes a clear pattern of marketplace acceptance and contradicts any assertion that the item is counterfeit.
III. Policy Alignment
Under eBay’s published guidance, a listing may be removed if it involves:
Counterfeit goods
Unauthorized replicas
Unauthorized reprints
Items that infringe intellectual property rights (see: Intellectual property policy | eBay )
The card at issue does not fall within any prohibited category. It is an original Japanese trading card, not a reprint or unauthorized copy. No rights owner has issued a VeRO claim against this item, and the listing does not infringe any copyright, trademark, or design rights.
IV. Request for Reinstatement
Given the substantial evidence of authenticity, the demonstrated marketplace acceptance, and the absence of any intellectual property infringement, the removal appears to have been made in error. I respectfully request that the listing be reinstated in accordance with eBay’s policies and the factual record presented.
