eBay gave seller my phone after seller this.car allegedly put in shill bid
I was bidding on a car. 'Somebody' (guess who) put in a bid higher than mine and then retracted it to see what my high bid was. Within minutes the seller called me to see about my interest. I have been on ebay for 23yrs and have a long history of perfect buys and sells, including many cars.
This is an egregious violation of my privacy and their policy and I hope this.car gets kicked off. Ridiculous.

Mentor2 years agoSellers cannot bid on their own items. It isn't possible. Sorry, but bid retractions do happen. Contacting the under bidder isn't against the rules.

OP2 years agoThey can't bid on their own items, but the definition of a shill bid is to have a false bidder place a bid - I have participated in hundreds of auctions - pretty sure I know when something is wrong.

·2 years agoOftentimes, when bidders are outbid, they will move on to another item. I don't think it is out of place for a seller to make sure that backup bidders are still interested if a bid removal puts them back in first place. I would recommend reviewing other (similarly bid) listings by that seller to see if bid retractions appear to be a common ploy.

OP2 years agoSorry, but they called me immediately following the retraction - it was a test to see where my high bid was. I've been on ebay for 23 yrs, and participated in countless auctions for way longer than that.
