eBay fees

Question

Why are eBay fees so high? Everything I figure out come to 18-22%...THAT IS HIGH. You can sell at the local flea market cheaper...

eBay makes your items available to 134 million potential buyers and provides tools to facilitate the listing, marketing, payments, and shipping of your item. This is in addition to communication and dispute resolution tools and a feedback system where you can establish a reputation as a seller. There is really no comparison between eBay and a flea market that gives you a little piece of ground where you handle everything yourself.

The FVFs are charged on the following on a transaction:

-The item price

-The paid shipping from the Buyer

-Any sales tax levied on the transaction (5 states have not sales tax)

-If you use Free Shipping it means the Buyer pays no shipping but you DO so there is no FVF for shipping

-When Buyers are charged for shipping you have to back out what the Buyer paid you for shipping against what you paid out of pocket with your eBay discount when buying labels through them. The discount offsets some or all of the FVFs charged for shipping

-If you compared the TOTAL a Buyer pays on the Order details with the amount eBay pays you on your Seller Hub > Payments > Transaction activity report you will find out the FVF % is pretty much spot on, too often Sellers ONLY use the Sold amount leaving out shipping and sales tax and think eBay is over charging them ... they aren't, Sellers just need to learn the math.

EBay fees is most categories is 12.9% +30cents. EBay fees are charged on all monies paid by the buyer shipping included.
