Ebay double taxing
Anybody else have a problem with ebay charging double tax? I was automatically charged tax twice on an item i purchased. Somebody is ripping us off. Check your purchases. I almost didn't notice. I only discovered the problem when I bought the same exact item again a few days later and the total charges were different.

Go to your Purchase History, find the item (s), click on "Order Details" and you will see an itemization of charges:
Item Price, Shipping & Sales Tax.
There should only be one amount for the sales tax for each of the items.

OP3 years agoAs I said - there is only one sales tax charge but the item price was increased to reflect a sales tax and then tax was charged again!

I don’t see any evidence of double taxation. What I see is two different transactions with different item costs … each taxed once. [The shoes are two different colors and two different sizes.]
Why do you think the difference in item cost has anything to do with sales tax? [Sellers price their own items. eBay adds on the appropriate tax. The two are NOT related.]

Ignoring your puzzling rudeness ... the cost of both pairs of shoes currently are priced at $38.49 ... the price you were charged on 7/2.
There is nothing to explain why you were charged only $35 for the 2nd pair you purchased on 7/9 ... but the price clearly was decreased, rather than increased.

Again, there is no evidence of double taxation. Neither is there any evidence that $35 is the actual selling price of the shoes. [The seller may have had a temporary sale on the day you purchased the second pair ... or something else might have occurred ... but there is no evidence that 'tax' had anything to do with the difference in pricing.]

OP3 years agoWhen I bought them the price was 35.00 each. There is evidence of that -- was was charged 35.00.
I don't know where that link came from -- except that I've been complaining to the company and ebay for a few days and maybe whoever was doing this is trying to cover their ass.
It's interesting coincidence isn't it -- that if you apply tax to the 35.00 purchase price you get the new price in that ad -- and then using that same tax rate -- appy the tax to that total -- you get the 42.25 I was charged.

Mentor3 years agoPlaying games with numbers is how many conspiracy theories get started. There is no logical response to your assertions that the company changed their price due to your complaints ... except that listings show the date and substance of any changes made to it.

You were not "double taxed".
The sales tax is assessed on the price of EACH item.
The purchase on July 2nd: item was $38.49 PLUS $3.76 sales tax
The purchase on July 9th: item was $35.00 PLUS $3.45 sales tax.
The amount you see after your email address indicates the total amount of the transaction, which is itemized underneath that line.

OP3 years agoThe purchase price of both items is 35.00 each. No business in the world sets prices on brand new new items at random numbers like 38.49.
They are selling hundreds of these shoes at 35.00. All of them. All sizes. None of them are priced at 38.49! Or any other price than 35.00.
The item price for one of the items was automatically INCREASED to the total amount including tax and then taxed again.

·3 years agoWhat are you actually SEEING (and where are you seeing it) that leads you to conclude that you were "charged tax twice" for one transaction? A screenshot would be helpful. If you are looking at a bank/credit card website be sure to check the STATUS of both charges.

OP3 years agoHere's what I'm SEEING! The item price is 35.00 In one case the item price was increased by the taxable amount by someone at ebay and then tax was added again. This was done automatically. It must be happening to many other buyers - without any recourse.
