eBay Charging Undisclosed Fees at Checkout - Leaving eBay after 28 Years - Horrible Support
I recently purchased an overseas item. Total price disclosed for the purchase showed £ 168.00. Breakdown shows the following:
1 item GBP 98.00
Standard tracked delivery GBP 27.82
Import charges GBP 32.10
Tax* GBP 10.08
Order total GBP 168.00
All of this information was made available n the Item description page. £ 168.00 was total cost for me. NOT SO.
When proceeding to the checkout page, £ 168.00 was still the total price showing. After paying, I noticed that £ 29.40 was automatically added on.
I was charged total price of £ 197.40.
I called eBay right away. After speaking to a front line rep, a specialist, and a manager, eBay conceded the following:
This fee was evidently a tariff charge. Although eBay charged me £ 32.10 for import charges (clearly evident on the checkout page). They decided to tack on an undisclosed £ 29.40 at payment time.
eBay conceded that there was NO COLORED BANNER on the item page which identifies the particular item may be subject to additional tariffs. NO BANNER EXISTED FOR THIS ITEM.
eBay conceded that the £ 29.40 was an undisclosed fee not displayed on the item page or the checkout page.
EBAY MANAGER UNDERSTOOD AND TOOK THE TIME TO DOCUMENT THE ISSUE AND SUBMITTED A RECOMMENDATION FOR A REFUND.
This was after a painful 1 hour + conversation with 3 separate people.
I have still not heard back from eBay regarding this refund. When I spoke with eBay yesterday regarding the issue, I spoke with a first tier support rep. She began to document the issue again and asked me to hold while she was able to find an eBay specialist.
I had already gone through this painful escalation the prior week. I politely asked her to please follow up on the issue. That I didn't have time for another painful 1 hour call.
I have no confidence that eBay will respond. They really do not have a mechanism to follow up.
eBay is not the venue that it once was. It has set up a very non-caring customer service center with horrible response.
THERE ARE MANY OTHER PLACES TO SHOP THESE DAYS.
eBay HAS LOST MY BUSINESS FOREVER.
28 GOOD YEARS. ... NO MORE.
