Ebay charges recurring payment
My preferred method of payment from paypal is paypal balance. HOwever, ebay is making all of my purchases recurring payments, so in spite of my preference, paypal is taking things from my checking account rather than my paypal balance. Paypal says they can't change it.
I would like to tell ebay to change it, but of course, it is not easy to reach them. Does anybody know either how to fix it or some magic way to reach a human on ebay so that they will fix it?

OP1 year agoI did get through to a human. After a lot of investigation, I discovered that if you win an auction (as opposed to buy it now), ebay does call it a recurring subscription. When paypal gets a recurring transaction, they ignore your preference to use your paypal balance.
The (incorrect) recurring subscription designation is NOT a bug, but something built into the ebay/paypal agreement.
The only victim is the poor sucker whose bank account is silently drained without.

Mentor1 year agoThere may be a way to set a separate default payment method just for eBay or just for those "recurring" payments; I am not sure exactly how to do that on PayPal, though.
What has worked for me:
If you mean that when you check out of eBay and select PayPal, you are not able to choose a specific payment method in your PayPal wallet but one is selected for you, in that case go to your eBay Payments page in your eBay account and delete the entry for PayPal that appears there.

The next time you check out on eBay and choose PayPal, you should be sent to your PayPal wallet page and given a chance to pick a specific payment method, including PayPal Credit if the transaction qualifies.
If the seller requires a payment method in advance to place a bid or make an offer, you may have to provide a credit or debit card that can handle a reversible payment hold. In the case of an auction, eBay may allow some time -- on the order of an hour -- after the auction ends to combine auction wins or to choose a different payment method. If another payment method is not specified, eBay will charge the amount to the payment method specified in advance.
If you use PayPal as your default payment method on eBay for offers and auctions, that may relink that PayPal entry to your eBay Payments page, requiring you to delete it again to be able to choose a payment method in your PayPal wallet. If you can choose a non-PayPal payment method for offers and auctions on eBay, you should be able to choose a payment method when checking out an choosing PayPal.
