eBay charged me for a lost item by carrier
I sold an item, shipped per buyers choice (usps). Item is delayed or lost. eBay had already put the money into my bank account, then the buyer opened a claim. eBay immediately closed the case, sided with the buyer, and charged me 80 dollars more than I ever received for the sale! How is this possible?? eBay obviously keeps their cut for the original sale. Some great customer service here!! Where’s the seller protections? I can not believe this sort of thing can happen! Has anyone else had this issue?
I get it, if I have to refund the money, but why is eBay making me eat more than I received? Charge me the shipping, ok fine, but profit off of me? I’m as much of a victim of circumstance as the buyer. I’m out my product and quite a bit of money.
good customer service should be on both side of the transaction.
I am willing to eat the shipping, but not EBay’s profit. That’s bad business

When you sold the item and shipped it, did you upload the tracking number to the sold item page in your selling account? If you did not ebay had no way of knowing that you did ship it and that USPS had lost it.
Was a dispute filed, It should show up in your ebay messages, and we would need to know if it was for Item Not As Described or Item Not Received.
eBay would refund the buyer the full amount of the purchase & shipping, then charge you the final value fees for the transaction and shipping, which was around $60 if you didn't respond to the dispute.
Have you contacted USPS? If not look up their customer service phone number on line and call them. Have your tracking number handy, and if the tracking stopped at a regional or sorting facility have the rep start a missing package claim for you, starting at the last facility it was tracked to. Also ask how you can file a claim if they cannot locate the package. Unfortunately, because you shipped with Ground Advantage, there is only $100 insurance on the shipment. You could have added insurance through USPS at your cost.

Mentor1 year agoYou need to file a lost package at USPS.COM if you shipped using any method except media mail, as it included up to $100 of insurance coverage.

Mentor1 year agoWhen the buyer filed an Item Not Received case, you had 3 days to reply with a tracking number showing Delivered, or a full refund. If you did neither, then ebay can refund the buyer in full from your funds, record a defect on your account, and you do not get the Final Value Fee credited. The refund should only be item price + shipping. ebay refunds the sales tax that it collected and remitted to the buyer's state revenue department.
