There are two ways of determining the shipping weight of an item. First, there's the scale weight ... easy to understand. Second, there's dimensional weight ... not so easy. The following explanation from google:
Dimensional weight, also known as volumetric weight, is a pricing technique used by shipping carriers to calculate shipping costs based on the amount of space a package occupies (its volume) rather than its actual weight.
They measure length, width, and depth of the package, and look up in a table what a package of those dimensions "should' weigh. The shippers choose whichever method will gain them the higher charge ... that's easy to understand, too.

Mentor1 year ago@clarkgm.561 What are the package dimensions and weight on the listing that you were overcharged on?
You may have made a typo on the listing. To check this go to the sold item and select Sell Similar and then scroll down to the shipping section.
Check to see if the irregular package box is checked. That does result in a $4 surcharge.
See this post for details and screen shots of the $4 surcharge setting>
