Ebay buyer protection
Summary: d13f00l expressed frustration with eBay's new dispute process after receiving fewer items than advertised. They found the system confusing because it now seems to only allow refunds, removing options for direct negotiation with sellers for a resolution. eastlaneave explained that if an item is 'Not As Described,' the seller should cover return shipping, and clarified that a seller's return policy only applies to 'remorse' returns. Since the dispute was opened with PayPal, d13f00l must follow PayPal's process this time.
I purchased an item on eBay, inside the listing it said it was for 4pc. The price would have been set for 4pc matching similar sellers elsewhere. I received one item. I have been a long time ebay user...the process used to be you open the dispute...and you negotiate with the seller on how to best resolve it.
Now eBay just will issue a refund, there's no way to just open a dispute? The seller can resolve the issue by either issuing a refund, and I ship the item back - their listing says if I send the item back I am paying for shipping but that's not right if it was not correct...or they can ship the missing items....
I got really confused at the process, and opened the dispute with paypal. Ebay says it should have been opened with them and to contact them for questions - and it takes you to an AI landing page.
So, is the only option now refund, and an ebay return label is used, the buyer doesn't pay? There's no more negotiation on resolution with sellers?
Next time I can do it on eBay instead of paypal, it doesn't happen often....but the new process is confusing and worse than the old process...for buyers and sellers...as a buyer you get your money back but there's no option for a proper resolution, just return.

For next time, if the item is Not As Described then the seller will pay the return shipping regardless of what the listing says about returns.
(Doesn't match photos and description, broken, etc)
A seller's return policy is only for 'remorse' returns (changed mind, doesn't fit, found a better price, etc)
Since you opened with Paypal, you will have to follow their process this time.
