eBay Bad Behavior
eBay refunded the buyer without the buyer returning the Mini Maggie Speaker System! I tried numerous times to reply to the buyer with no response. This included offering to pay for the return of the product. This is not right. eBay has done nothing to ensure I receive the product back and has simply accepted the buyer claim of damage without proof or making sure I get the product back.
I am 80 years old and not savvy with eBay terms and need some help. I sold the system to get some money for my survival. I have totally disappointed and upset the way I have been treated.
Any response or have you just closed the case with no further recourse for me?

You needed to respond to the buyer's return request through your Returns dashboard in your Seller Hub.
When you did not respond directly to the request, the buyer was able to turn to Ebay for help. When a seller does not cooperate, Ebay issues the refund out of the seller's funds and tells the buyer they do not have to return the item.
Please read all of this:

OP3 years agoThe buyer never asked for a return. I offered to send a new speaker if he would return the damaged one, but never ever responded to any of my messages to him.
I never even got to this step:
What happens if the buyer doesn't send the item back?
Once you've accepted a return, the buyer should send the item back to you as soon as possible. If we don't see any indication that the item is on its way after 15 business days, we may close the return and protect you from negative feedback. Keep in mind that some returns can remain open for up to 35 business days.

What kind of case did the buyer file? The buyer can only file a Returns Request =OR= An Item Not Received.
The seller needs to respond within 3 days of receiving either case. If seller does not respond, the buyer can ask ebay to step in on day 4, and ebay will then refund the buyer from your funds.

OP3 years agoBuyer said one of the speakers had a buzz in it. I offered to replace with a new speaker. No response nor never any response as the days pasted. i asked eBay to intervene but they decided to close the case and refund the buyer's money without me receiving back the speaker system. So now the buyer is evidently keeping the system and not sending it back. He has never contacted me after telling me the one speaker was defective.

Instead of asking Ebay to intervene, you needed to respond to the case and provide the buyer with a prepaid return shipping label and then refund when you received the returned item.

OP3 years agoNever got to that point because the buyer would not respond.

Mentor3 years agoHi @wsrgary
I'm truly sorry this happened. Sadly, many people jump into selling without having read through all the policies involved in selling on eBay. Nothing is self-evident. Policies need to be read and understood ... preferably before there's a need to use them. You have been listing expensive items for sale for over a year. There's really no excuse for remaining ignorant of selling policies. You've been extremely lucky if this is your first return.
If a buyer complains of receiving a defective item ... the seller must realize that they are responsible for providing a prepaid shipping label IF they want the item returned before refunding the buyer. If your buyer didn't open a 'return request' ... then you needed to tell them to open one ... rather than contacting eBay.
eBay takes a seller's word when the listing says 'No returns accepted' ... and will usually refund the buyer (with seller's money) when they are asked to intervene. eBay will NOT make the seller accept a return when the seller has said they will not accept returns.
All I can think of your doing at this point is to see if you can convince an eBay rep into helping you get the item back from the buyer ... assuming the buyer is a reasonable person. The best CS reps can be reached on social media. They are knowledgeable, fluent in English, and usually helpful. Explain to them what happened and ask if they can help you get your item back. You, of course, will need to provide the money for the return shipping ... assuming the item is still in useable condition. Here's where you reach the reps:

I sincerely wish you good luck in getting your item back. 🙂

·3 years agoThe buyer didn't have to respond.
All you had to do was accept the return and provide a shipping label and they could have returned the item before you had to refund.
You lost the item and money when you got Ebay involved.
