Ebay Authentication issue for a baseball card I purchased in Sep of 2025
On 21 Sep 2025 I purchased a baseball card for $540. It was sent to PSA to be authenticated, it was authenticated and the card was shipped to me.
23 Oct I submitted the card to PSA through a 3rd party submitter from Michigan, TNT.
11 Jan 2026 TNT sent me photos on IG and I cold see the card was graded by PSA but the label was incorrect as it was labeled at a 1999 Topps Gold Label Race to Aaron Gold Label (PSA 8, cert #135463595) this indicated the card was not numbered and it is numbered #09 of 44.
I had TNT return it to get the correct label and PSA removed it from any hold, returned it to me with "Do Not Holder, Factory mis-print".
I see this as strictly a PSA issue as PSA authenticated it in Oct of 2025, then mis-labeled it, once I returned it a 2nd time they now realize it was a factory mis-print. Had the done that back when I purchased the card, the sale would not have gone through.
To be completely transparent I was not a Topps Gold Label expert back then, I was drawn to the fact that the card was numbered 09 of 44 and really only focused on the back of the card.
I reached out the a Juan Gonzalez super collector, showed him pics and he said "I don't think it is a a Red Label card". I do own a PSA 6 version of a real Race to Aaron red label b=numbered to 44 and I pulled it out to compare them.
PSA is correct, it must be some sort of mis-print as the front of the card does not have Red Foil on:
1. The Topps Gold Label writing in the upper right hand corner.
2. The Juan Gonzalez name is silver vs Red.
3. The Race to Aaron writing is also silver vs Red.
Knowing what I know now, PSA is correct, it IS a factory mis-print. My complaint is why couldn't PSA have ID'd it as a factory mis-print the first time they laid hands on it during the Authentication process?
I sent a request to PSA's customer Service folks, this was their response.
You did not purchase the card from PSA you purchased the card from Ebay, so you should file a claim with Ebay.
Also, you did not submit the card directly to PA for grading, TNT submitted it on your behalf, so we can not discuss anything we found or didn't find with you, only with TNT.
I have tried to go through the Ebay return process, but now after waiting for this card to get graded by PSA twice, I am no longer able to submit a return request through Ebay and when I type in the item number, it says no items match your number?
I would rather PSA just grade this card vs a refund. But, if anyone in this process should refund me money, it should be PSA in my humble opinion.
