Ebay asking for SS number...
Received this below notice in my email. I have sold items before on Ebay, but haven't put anything up for sale in several years. Just wondering why I'm receiving this. It's also in my Ebay mail box.

We wanted to let you know your payouts are on hold because we haven’t received a Tax Identification Number (TIN) for your account. We need your TIN for reporting purposes, as required by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and for other regulatory purposes.
Additionally, if we don’t receive a TIN for your account, we’ll soon need to withhold taxes from your gross payouts as required by the IRS.
Don’t worry, it’s easy to get this resolved and get paid.
Just provide us with one of the following
- Social Security Number (SSN)
- Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN)
- Employer Identification Number (EIN)

Mentor9 months ago@vd.dvs.wyfel3u You currently have active listings. Have you linked and verified your checking account to receive your payouts? The name and address on your checking account must match your eBay account and government ID exactly. Getting paid
eBay is required by federal government to ask for SS#'s to prevent money laundering.
Individual sellers will need to provide:

OP9 months agoOk. It's just that I already have an account with ebay and wondering why they are asking again.
It may be because I haven't used it in a few years. Thank you for the information. Just being careful with scams these days.

Mentor9 months agoThe requirement for providing your SSN was introduced when eBay became your payment processor and not PayPal. eBay is required to follow banking regulations and collect SSN's from anyone they process payments for.

Mentor9 months agoYou have items for sale now and sold something January 5. All sellers must provide a social security number so that earnings can be reported. All eBay sales are income and need to be reported as such on our tax form. You can deduct all expenses and come up with a net, as eBay reports a gross figure.
