eBay adding unnecessary additional insurance coverage
Summary: atgseller reports an issue with eBay automatically adding unnecessary additional insurance coverage when shipping items via USPS Ground Advantage, which wasn't happening before. They mention having to double-check labels recently as this auto-selection is inconsistent. disneyshopper hasn't experienced this specific issue but notes that additional insurance and signature requirements might be added for items priced at $750 or more.
Preemptively, I apologize for the link, I'm just trying to make it clear. I have been listing for a couple years and now all of a sudden I noticed that when I go to ship an item via USPS Ground Advantage (where the included insurance coverage is up to $100), sometimes, but not always, eBay automatically adds additional liability when it's not needed. So I don't know how long this has been going on, and how much more I have been paying in additional coverage that wasn't necessary. I have noticed this the last couple weeks. And it's so inconsistent. Sometimes that additional coverage is auto-added before I purchase the label (the additional liability toggle shows as auto selected), sometimes it's not. So I constantly have to be on the lookout to double-check that I'm not paying for unnecessary coverage when I did not have to do this before a couple of weeks ago. And just to be clear, normally when I purchase a shipping label and the value is over $100, I will click "Buy Label," and a box pops up that says "this is not covered, Do you want to add additional coverage" and I then I click yes (in other words, I have never selected additional liability as my default). But for some reason eBay's automatically adding this additional coverage when it's not necessary. Is anybody else having this issue?

MentorSep 8, 2026 at 9:43 PMI have not seen what you are seeing/experiencing. However, if the item is priced at $750 or more, I can see ebay adding the Signatured Required, as well as additional insirance.

OPSep 9, 2026 at 3:53 PMThank you for responding. After posting this, I did see some other discussions where they are having this issue too. Apparently it's a glitch with eBay. Unfortunately, it just means that I cannot just assume that the additional liability box is unchecked. Very frustrating.
