When you registered on eBay, that would mean you agreed to the eBay Terms and Conditions of using their site to either buy or sell. Part of those terms and conditions you agreed to gave eBay the right to contact you via eBay messaging or your email. You can reduce the amount of times they contact you for marketing or for ads or promotions by going into your Account Settings>Notifications or Communication Preferences.
