Dropped off Packages at Post Office - Status still "USPS Awaiting Item"
Summary: mioceneic shared their concern about several packages dropped off at the post office that have not been scanned as received. Despite assurances from the post office and the postmaster's assistance, the packages are still shown as "USPS Awaiting Item," causing significant worry. Fortunately, the buyers have been understanding, and mioceneic is looking for reassurance or similar experiences from others to ease their anxiety.
Hoping for some advice or reassurance.
Last Monday (Sept 21), I dropped off several packages at my local post office. I handed them directly to the employee and did not wait for a receipt. (Yes, I know.)
Fast forward to Saturday (Sept 26), and I get 2 messages from buyers asking why I haven't shipped their packages yet. I check their tracking numbers, and it shows that only a label was created and that USPS is waiting for drop-off. I checked my other orders, and there are actually 3 packages with this status. I assured them that I did drop off their packages on Monday, Sept 21.
I went to the post office this past Monday (Sept 28), and they stated that they do not have the packages and that they will LIKELY make it to their destination. I submitted an inquiry through the USPS website, and the postmaster at that post office called me the next day. She was very nice and understanding, and also assured me that in cases like these, the packages make it. She gave me her email and asked me to give her the tracking numbers so she can investigate; I'm still waiting to hear back.
I AM STILL FREAKING OUT. I cannot file a missing mail claim since the packages never got that first scan.
Luckily, my buyers have been very understanding and appreciative of my communication and updates.
I just need to hear stories that this is going to be ok. Help!

Mentor2 weeks ago@mioceneic I sure hope that your packages turn up and start getting scans soon. I have heard of packages not getting an acceptance scan getting a scan on down the line, fingers crossed for you!
If you don't have time to stand in line I would recommend at least using the kiosk so you can get a receipt. I know that not all post offices have this option though.
Your best option is to keep your buyers updated and thank them for their patience. Assure them that they will get their items or a full refund.
