Do I Continue To Wait
Summary: mdavis06 shared their frustration about an item that was stolen in transit and expressed uncertainty about whether to wait for a seller-conducted investigation or involve eBay to expedite a refund. Several participants advised involving eBay sooner, as the seller's funds were on hold pending investigation. comics-scifi-collectibles provided detailed steps on how to file a return request through eBay, emphasizing the buyer's right to a prompt refund. mdavis06 decided to request eBay's help and subsequently received confirmation that a refund was on its way, expressing belief that while the seller might also have been a victim, it was not a buyer's concern.
I purchased an item couple weeks ago, item shipped, between shipping state and receiving state item was stolen. A sarcastic “thanks for your item” note was added to empty package and still shipped to me from the USPS hub.
The seller says there are 14 victims of this same issue. Seller says we now have to wait till the end of the month for him to talk to USPS again, the cops, the investigators, etc.. it’s fact I didn’t get my stuff, but can’t seem to get a refund until all this investigation is done per the seller since their “funds are on hold”
Do I be patient and still get wait, or ask ebay to step in so I can get what’s rightfully mine and my money returned

OP1 month agoseller said to do the refund. He confirmed other people he shipped to had this issue. The next day it was “are you sure this is true and you’re not scamming me”
The next day it was “ I got USPS involved and the police to do an investigation because there’s so many other buyers”
The next day it was “ be patient you’ll get your refund when all of my funds have been released after the investigation”
Couple days later it is now an automatic message saying “ note to all buyers I should hear back from the investigation after the 19th and all will get refund and more”
It’s almost like they don’t want eBay to get involved.
I understand everyone had stuff stolen, I just thought as a buyer, you get your refund right away, and the seller needs to figure it out on their end because they confirmed coming out of East Coast a bunch of stuff was stolen on their end

Mentor1 month ago@mdavis06 I strongly recommend you take my advice. Don't let the seller stall you out of the eBay Money Back Guarantee. This is a bad situation for the seller but it is not your problem.
mdavis06
OP1 month ago · EditedThat is what I figured. They also want me to mail them the condescending “thanks for your item” note that I received in my empty package to add to their investigation they said.
I believe a few people got screwed somehow after they shipped, yes. it’s just seems like the seller wants everyone to wait for the seller to be made whole before refunds are made.

Mentor1 month ago@mdavis06 You will mail back the empty box with the note through the return request. The seller will provide a return label.
mdavis06
OP1 month agoI tried to do that a couple days ago, and they said since “ since people can’t wait like I asked for me to get answers and you did a refund on your own now we have to wait even longer because my funds are on hold”
mdavis06
OP1 month agoAll I’m getting is screenshots of “X funds on hold with X available”
And “ I spoke to UPS and the police again and I’m told they are looking at it”

Mentor1 month ago · Edited@mdavis06 You just need to ask eBay to step in and help on the 4th business day.

I understand that this is frustrating and not your fault however the buyers have a right to a refund now per the eBay Money Back Guarantee.
Refunds come from the Sellers back up payment method for selling costs, I use a credit card
Once the buyers refund reaches their account then the buyers original payment is released.
If you do not refund willingly then eBay WILL force a refund from your account. You will get a DEFECT for each forced refund and will not get your seller's fees back.

OP1 month agoso we’re going on a month at least of back and forth, investigation, cops, funds held, etc,
I took your advice, asked for eBay, and it shows already “refund on its way”…
My gut says this is all legit, seller got burnt too, but I also think they wanted to wait until they got fixed before refunding anybody and we’re going on a month already

Mentor1 month ago@mdavis06 Since tracking shows delivery of an item I recommend filing a not as described return request. Be sure to do so within 30 days of the date of delivery. eBay will require the seller to refund you. Then the seller is has to pursue a refund from USPS. You do NOT wait for the refund, if any from USPS.
Here's what you need to do:
You should open a Return Request. Reason> Doesn't Match photos and description
Select the return item button on this page:
https://www.ebay.com/help/buying/returns-refunds/return-item-refund?id=4041&st=
4 business days after filing the return request if the seller has not provided a return shipping label or a full refund then ask eBay to step in and help: https://www.ebay.com/help/buying/returns-refunds/ask-ebay-to-step-in?id=4701

You are not responsible for any of this. The seller is.
