disputing a charge by FedEx

FedEx accepted a comforter I sold with a shipping cost of a little over $21 but after delivering it they added to that charge over $35., making the shipping of a soft, non-fragile item over $55. I could have shipped a fridge for that amount. Any recourse?

Was the comforter shipped in a cardboard box? Fed Ex has a surcharge if you do not use a cardboard box.
