Dispute between eBay seller myway46 and cueguy: eBay item number:116969758073
Seller listed this as an auction with an opening bid of $250 and the “Make an Offer†feature. The item sat for several days with no activity. I tendered an offer of $195.00. I received an e-mail from eBay with a counter-offer from the seller of $200.00. That was perfectly acceptable to me and I searched the counter-offer e-mail for some way to indicate acceptance. Looking at your tutorial on offers and counter-offers there should have been a button (link) that said “Buy Itâ€. There was not. The only active links in that e-mail were the item and a button that said “Replyâ€. When you click on reply it just takes you back to the original listing.
Therefore, I immediately used eBay messaging and sent a message to the seller that I accepted the counter-offer but the notification had no way for me to indicate that – thus the message.
Apparently the seller does not check their messages and the time period for acceptance passed and he was sent a declined message by default. He still claims the only message he ever got was the decline one – no indication he received my messages. Although he doesn’t seem to have a problem with getting them now.
To complicate matters further, the auction remained active. There are now three bids and the item is up to $260.00.
Seller continuously claims he received no message from me. I think he realizes he acted in haste by counter-offering and now wants the extra money.
However, the primary fault lies with eBay in not including the “Buy It†link in the counter-offer e-mail to me – which would have precluded the default declination.
How does this get resolved?
