Dishonest buyer made a false claim for refund
Summary: oceanic8156 raised concerns about a dishonest claim made by a buyer on eBay, resulting in funds being held for a refund they did not authorize. fashionsandbeauty4u explained eBay's Money Back Guarantee policy and informed oceanic8156 that chances of reversing a refund decision are slim. inceptions suggested that if the appeal is denied, it might lead to a defect on the seller's record. oceanic8156 expressed confusion as they followed instructions from an eBay support agent not to issue a refund, and they are seeking further explanation from eBay. The discussion reflects uncertainty and the need for eBay to review the specific case details.
The buyer has made a dishonest and false claim in an attempt to obtain a refund. The claim is not accurate, and I strongly dispute the buyer’s allegations. I did not authorize or approve this refund, and I believe the buyer is abusing eBay’s return/refund policy.
What is especially concerning is that eBay appears to have sided with the buyer, and my funds are currently being held for a refund that I did not authorize or agree to.
I have already filed an appeal and would like to know what happens next?

OP1 month agoMy question is: What happens next after I appeal eBay’s decision? I would like to understand the appeal process and what I should expect regarding the funds currently being held. Thanks!

Mentor1 month agoWe do not have a crystal ball to see what will happen if you appealed Ebay's decision.
In MOST cases, Ebay will side with the buyer due to Ebay's Money Back Guarantee. It is highly unlikely that eBay would reverse their decision.

Ebay has a 30-day Money Back Guarantee. That Guarantee overrides an individual Seller's no return policy.
If the Buyer opens an Item Not as Described refund request on eBay, even if it's not true, the Seller only has three business days to respond with either a prepaid return label or a refund. If they do not, on the 4th day, eBay will step in and force the refund from your funds. Plus there are other consequences to your Seller account if you deny the return.

If the Buyer has already been refunded because eBay had to step in, eBay considers the case closed. It is highly unlikely that eBay would reverse their decision, especially regarding a Money Back Guarantee claim.
You will need to wait for their decision on your appeal. Keep in mind that it's a holiday weekend so you may not hear back until early next week.

You are most welcome.
inceptions
Mentor1 month agoHi @oceanic8156
What you should expect (as this is the most likely outcome) is that eBay will deny the appeal and if you did not accept the return, the buyer will be refunded from your account, you'll earn a defect on your seller record, and the buyer will be allowed to keep the item.
There is no way for anyone here to know what eBay will decide for sure especially as you provided no details about what the problem was with the item based on the buyer's return request and any communication the two of you had about it.

OP1 month agoI was given a reference number by an eBay support agent, and I was specifically advised not to issue a refund to the buyer because the buyer had made a false claim and was abusing eBay’s return policy. The support agent told me that eBay would step in and handle the case directly.
Based on those instructions from eBay, I did not issue a refund. However, my funds are now being held for the refund.
This is extremely concerning because I followed the instructions provided by the eBay support agent. If eBay is now taking a different position, it appears that the information and instructions I received from the agent were incorrect or were not followed.
I am asking eBay to review the case, including the support interaction associated with the reference number, and explain why my funds are being held when I followed the instructions given to me by eBay.

it's difficult for us to fill in the gaps with our imaginations when you don't provide important information about the communications your already received from eBay.
(Your original post said that it appears eBay has sided with the buyer and your most recent post says that eBay specifically told you not to refund - that they were handling it.)
If you received that communication from eBay, you would need to contact eBay to inquire about any next steps or questions you may have. This is a member-to-member board; eBay would have to help you with that.
