Difficulty trying to issue a refund to seller but eBay wil not connect me to speak to an agent
A buyer mistakingly bought my item not realizing it was "for pickup only" due to the enormous cost of shipping. This was my 1st refund effort and it has not gone well. He requested a cancel but I regrettably delayed, such that eBay paid me at which point it became a refund only situation.
I plowed through the refund instructions but had questions that the chat bot could or would not answer and would not connect me to an agent. Twice it said that I had no issues that needed addressing. I also asked the buyer three times to send me his mailing address so I could send him a bank check for the amount I was paid plus 1/2 of the final seller's value fee due to my failure to promptly cancel. I felt it would be a good faith gesture. He still has not responded and will probably give me bad feedback as a result of a situation his initially created.
A friend advised me to go through eBay rather than on my own since I would have no redress if he gave me a bad review. He's probably correct. I think eBay provides a 90 day window for refunds. Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated and especially an eBay phone #. Thanks, riverman472012

Mentor2 years agoIf you want the FVF credited, you will need to refund within 30 days of receiving the payment.
Seller Hub > Orders > Awaiting shipment
Locate the item, click the down-arrow, select Cancel order, select Problem with Buyer's address. If the cancel order is not available, you can refund via Paypal if you ask for the buyer's Paypal email address.

OP2 years agoThanks for your advice. I've not received any replies from the buyer since he requested a refund nor have I received any meaningful advice from eBay's automated assistant . I also still could not get connected to an agent. I noticed in the "Refund the buyer" screen there is a section in Calculate refund for entering an "Order level refund". What is that feature and what considerations must I make to determine what amt if any? Also the Review Refund doen't light up after I've entered a refund amt which convinces me that eBay has closed that option even though I sold the item on Nov 20th.
If I refund via PayPal will eBay not refund me the FVF. If so, I'll deduct the FVF from the buyer's refund since he created this mess by buying a "pickup only" item when he live 3000 mi away. What a fiasco! Sny further advice would be greatly appreciated.

Mentor2 years agoIf the item was sold Nov 20, you still have time to refund in order to get the FVF credited. I have never used that Order Level Refund thingy, as any refunds I have made were for one item. Since the listing was for Local Pickup only, the refund amount would be the item price. If you refund using the Paypal site, the FVF would not be credited. Try refunding using ebay.

Mentor2 years agoIn the future, use LOCAL PICKUP ONLY Gainesville, Florida, IN THE LISTING TITLE. That should prevent this from happening again.

OP2 years agoThanks for all your advice disneyshopper. This was a major anxiety producer since the complexity of my transactions were so strait forward up to this point and eBay assistant was so limited in its ability to respond.

OP2 years agoI realized that I had not selected the reason for return and once I did the Review Return button lit up and I successfully completed the refund. Thanks for your sage advice!!!
