Difficult Buyer
I need some advice regarding a difficult buyer. I posted an item for sale for just less than the least expensive one listed on eBay after doing my research in hopes of selling it quickly as I truly was in need of the money. It was factory sealed, new in the box and that's how I listed it. It sold the same day and I shipped it out the following morning. I even contacted the buyer to let them know it was on its way and that even though I hadn't requested it, it said someone would have to sign for the item due to the value and the buyer replied asking if I had any additional items like this one for sale. I replied that I did have one more like this one but it had been opened and was new but not factory sealed. He said he would be interested in it as well and asked me to send him the link but that he would probably wait until he received the first one he had just purchased. I hadn't posted the second item yet so I hurried up and got it posted (as an open box item) and sent him the link. I never heard another word from him (which was fine) and reached out to him the day after the first item was delivered to make sure that all was good on his end with the delivery and item. Still no response.
Four days after it was received and signed for, he sent me an email stating that the item had been opened and retaped and was not as described and he felt the price he paid was too much for the item since it was not as described. He was incinuating that he would keep the item if I refunded at least $135. The item was new in the box, factory sealed and he was flat out lying. I looked at the similar/same items listed on eBay again the day he said that the new ones were listed for $135 less than this one. There was one person that did have 2 listed for less money as of the day he said mine was not as described. I told him I was sorry he felt that way but that it was absolutely new in the box, factory sealed. He said it wasn't and that he had pictures to prove it and would just request a refund and when I didn't respond, he did exactly that. I had already contacted eBay to report the situation. So, I contacted them again for advice stating once again that he was lying. He just wanted it for less money and I believe he is the one that purchased one of the less expensive ones that were listed 7 days after he purchased the one from me. So, after doing more research finding that people will lie because eBay will only give their money back guarantee if the item is not as described, I accepted the return and sent him the return label via eBay knowing that now I couldn't list the item as new in box, factory sealed because HE had opened it.
Now, 6 days after I sent him the return label, he sends me another email asking if I would refund part of his money and he would just keep the item and cancel the return (after he tells eBay that the package was basically a "bag of potato chips"). Again, proving my point that he just wanted the item cheaper. And, because I haven't responded to his latest email (because I'm so angry with him and eBay it's best that I don't at the moment), he is sending me additional emails saying "Anybody there?" BTW, his pictures showed nothing except that there was no additional or different tape on the package, once again telling me he knew he was being fraudulent by taking horrible pictures showing nothing.
He agreed to the purchase price and I was honest about the condition being new and it was the least expensive one listed at that time...until 7 days later.
He isoo just trying to take advantage of me, someone that had to sell one of their higher end items to try to avoid eviction, and I was completely honest about the first item being new and sealed and even told him that the other like item was not factory sealed, but open box. Why would I be honest about the second item but not the first?
I worked for the largest mailing company in the USA for 12 years and looked the boxed item over carefully before shipping it not to mention can tell the original tape from the factory was still on the box based on his pictures.
His blatant lies made out of greed has caused major havoc in my life and yet I did nothing wrong.
I need some advice on how to handle this buyer moving forward and what to do from here.
