Difficult buyer
Buyer asked me to do a transaction off of ebay and I said no. Then he made the purchase (an adjustable ring) and picked up the item at my home. I stated in my messages to him that I don't accept returns unless I have made an error in my listing. After picking up the item he said he took it to the store where I bought it to have it adjusted to size 7 and they told him it wasn't possible. This is untrue but I agreed to accept his return anyway. Now he wants me to meet him far from my home to make the return and I said I would not meet him. I said his options are to bring it back to my home where he picked it up or to mail it back. I have tried calling ebay and get a message that they are closed even though it's 2:30 pm Mountain time. How do I prevent the buyer from leaving negative feedback for me?

eBay doesn't have a phone number to call (and hasn't since the pandemic started in 2020, so you were possibly calling a scam site pretending to be eBay.
You can't prevent the buyer from leaving negative feedback if that is what he chooses to do. Depending on how he words things, what you've said so far hasn't equated to a reason for removal.
If he does leave negative feedback, wait to reply until you calm down. You want to make if professional and factual. The real goal is to show potential future buyers how you handle problems and provide customer service. Don't say anything that denigrates your buyer as that will reflect more on you than on the buyer.
