Did ebay change case sensitivity on log-in names?
I'm on ebay every day - both on my lap top and phone. I uncheck keep me signed in with every log-in, clear my cache/cookies, etc. every day. Today, when I was signing in on my PC after clearing cache/cookies, I was told ebay did not recognize this user name. I logged in using my email address, changed my password and tried to sign in again - same error message. I went to my account profile and the first letter of my username was no longer uppercase. I checked my purchase history, watch list, addresses, personal info. etc. to make sure I hadn't been hacked and it all looked fine. So I changed my username to something completely different with an uppercase letter start. When I went to log in, received the same error message that ebay did not recognize the username, logged in with my email address and sure enough, in my account info, the user name was all lower case. Has anyone else experienced this? Is this an ebay coding change or something else? I've had my username with mixed case for decades....Any insight is most welcome. Thanks and have an amazing day!

OP1 year agoIt's weird you can't get to my feedback - it's not set to private although that doesn't matter anyway since I'm not a seller. I changed my username when I couldn't log in....my original username always displayed for me with mixed case on my account settings and feedback profile....no clue as to why based on what you both say in this conversation. I'm sure I'm beating a dead horse now! ðŸ˜

Your feedback page is fine; it is only the link on the community page that no longer works.
Your feedback is here:

The community link just leads to your old username which no longer works:

Mentor1 year agoAs far as I know, eBay usernames have always been lower-case only.
It appears that the old sign-in page that some folks were using may have ignored letter case for usernames, but apparently the new page that replaced it does not, and it will now not recognize names with upper case letters.

Mentor1 year agoHey @eburtonlab
Are you able to access the OP’s profile? Something’s odd on my end. 😋

Mentor1 year agoThe OP has changed usernames recently, which causes community page links to feedback or listings to no longer work correctly.

Mentor1 year agoThanks @eburtonlab I’ve never experienced that before when looking at a new or changed profile.

Mentor1 year agoI’ve never experienced that before when looking at a new or changed profile.
Khoros made a change to the community boards recently involving how certain kinds of account data are retrieved from eBay, and a lot of folks noticed profile images and feedback links that had changed since then have stopped working because of it. That is why my profile image no longer appears, unfortunately.

Mentor1 year agoHi @anglophile62
I’ve never known eBay to allow any uppercase letters in Usernames. [‘Store names’, yes … ‘Usernames’, no.]
You’re not new … so you must know how you’ve been signing in for years … but I’m truly stumped. 🤔
EDITED TO ADD:
I tried looking at your feedback profile to see what country you’re registered in … just in case there are differences … but I got an error message. [I’m on my iPhone.] Now I’m REALLY stumped.

OP1 year agoHi @house*of*paws and @eburtonlab,
Thanks to both of you for responding. This is really weird....I've been signing in with an uppercase 1st letter in my username since I joined ebay, so your statements on ebay usernames always being lowercase is news to me....I'm in the US. As @eburtonlab mentioned a new sign in page, this may be the issue? I was concerned I was hacked and after a mild panic, went through the steps I posted above. I'm relieved that it wasn't a hack....and glad to know this new (to me) bit of info on the sign in. Thank you both for the fast response!!!!

Mentor1 year agoA close look at the username policy shows that upper case letters are allowed when creating a username, but as far as I can tell eBay has always translated that into lower-case only usernames. I do not recall ever having seen an eBay username with any upper-case letters on any feedback page.
Lately eBay has been showing seller store names rather than usernames on seller pages and profile pages, so it is possible to have an upper-case letter in a store name, but feedback pages always displayed lower-case usernames.

We’re able to use either our Username OR our email address to log into our eBay account … so I never saw any reason NOT to save my Username, as everyone would know it anyway.
You must have noticed that your Username has always started with a lowercase letter on eBay’s pages … yes?
