DHL Unable to Deliver Package
I ordered a $150 product from a seller in Japan. I am in the United States. The item was sent with DHL. I provided my home address as the delivery address. My expectation was that the item would be left at my home, as is done with everything else I order online, including items from eBay. The seller is requiring a signature. I work during the day, and am not at my home. The seller did not disclose that a signature was required in the listing. The seller also has blocked my ability to update the address to my work address through DHL On Demand Delivery. I contacted DHL and was told that the options for me to accept responsibility and deliver the item without a signature, to change the delivery address, and for me to have the item left with a neighbor were all blocked by the shipper. They told me he would need to unblock at least one of those options so that I could make an update through On Demand Delivery.
Initially, the seller and I had communicated about this. He told me that I would need to change the delivery address. I got back to him with the information from DHL about the fact that he would need to unblock those options. He has not responded, and DHL will flag the shipment as undeliverable after the third failed attempt.
What should I do in this situation?
