"Defective" claim - but it's not -- buyer not familiar with the tech. Who pays for return?
A buyer purchased a tablet that clearly states it uses an operating system incompatible with the programs they wish to use it for. Maybe they didn't pay attention, or maybe they are not tech savvy. They are returning is as 'defective', which it's not. It was sold 'new unopened', which it clearly no longer is. I don't want to pay for return shipping. How does this work? I am a new seller on eBay (and this would have been my first sale). Thanks for any advice!

Mentor2 weeks agoAny time a buyer files a returns request using Not as described/defective/damaged, you need to accept the return and pay for the return shipping label. If you refuse, ebay can refund the buyer in full from your funds, not require the buyer to return the item, you get a defect on your account for an unresolved transaction, and you do not get your fees refunded. After you get the item back, you refund the buyer, and relist the item (increase the price to cover the shipping cost you had to refund).

OP2 weeks agoThanks for this advice. I think the return may have been automatic since I didn’t have the option for ‘no returns’, being a new seller. (I’ve been on eBay for years, but sharing my spouse‘s account). Lessons learned…!

Mentor2 weeks ago@margssellerspace Keep in mind that No Returns does NOT mean no refunds. Your return policy is only for buyers remorse returns such as changed mind, found better price, doesn't fit.
If the buyer SAYS it is not as described then you need to pay return shipping and refund the buyer 100% as @disneyshopper stated

OP2 weeks ago · EditedWow. Ok. Ugh! What is to prevent any buyer who has 'buyers remorse' not to claim 'not as described' for any purchase they make? It seems that any buyer can return anything at all. But I guess this is the system.

Mentor2 weeks ago@margssellerspace This is why it's best to at least offer buyer pays returns that way buyers have a way to return remorse items. With a remorse return buyer pays return shipping and you can withhold the outbound shipping cost if it was charged separately ( not free shipping)
