de minimis In Effect?
It's my understanding that USPS and private carriers like DHL are now adding a large fixed tariff amount to all small packages shipped to the US from China. Why isn't this shown in the relevant auctions, and why hasn't eBay published an information page to alert buyers? How is this being handled in terms of buying small products from China? Does it mean packages will be held up in customs pending payment, or does it mean sellers simply won't complete the sale because the tariff will be charged at the Chinese port prior to shipping?

OP1 year agoThat page is out of date. It begins by describing goods with a value over $800. That exemption is no longer applicable to shipments from China. Yes, there are several means by which the tariffs might be collected. The question is, which one?

Here is eBay's page with tariff updates. https://pages.ebay.com/tariffs/
Given the uncertainty as to what tariff is in effect at any given moment it is difficult to show an exact amount you will pay and when you would need to pay it. It may be charged when you purchase, in transit by the shipping company, or when your item arrives.
