Damaged Hummel
I shipped a Hummel on 11/23/22 to the buyer. Buyer never opened box until 12/24/22 and reports it damaged beyond repair. Pictures sent and the Hummel is smashed, but the box shows no damage.
Does the buyer have an obligation to open the box after it’s received to verify that it is undamaged?

Buyers have 30 days following delivery of the item to report damage. The holiday season is a time that people frequently delay opening packages given as presents.
It’s not unusual for a hollow, ceramic item to suffer a ‘concussion’ inside an undamaged box. For maximum safety, the box should be ‘floated’ inside a larger box … with packing peanuts or airbags separating the two boxes.
I’m really sorry this happened.

OP2 years agoThank you for taking the time to answer my question. I refunded the buyer today. I’ve sold a few things, but I’m pretty inexperienced at selling so your answer was so helpful.
