Customizing Account Settings - Feedback to E-Bay
I have been a buying member on E-Bay since 2002.
I have a couple of questions on my mind that I hope I can get reasonable answers to from Someone Who Knows.
First question: In spite of signing in to my account, and almost without exception, one search filter I set is to limit searches to items that are being sold from within the United States. On those occasions when I choose to purchase items from Mainland China, I do so through Ali Baba. Given that I nearly ALWAYS select this filter (and the filter for 'Free' shipping), WHY is it that the IT folks cannot allow customers to have certain filters pre-selected when they sign in to their account, with the option to change the filter once they are logged in? Seems like a simple enough change, no?
Second question: I am VERY pleased that E-Bay takes security of their customer's accounts as seriously as it does, HOWEVER, it appears to me that the onus of responsibility is placed squarely on the shoulders of the account holder. While I must agree that this IS where principle responsibility should reside, I wonder if sending an email to a customer is sufficiently meeting E-Bay's burden of responsibility for account security. Yes, I know, this can m(and will, I'm sure) be debated ad infinitum. Still, it is a point worth being brought front and center for examination.

Mentor2 years agoRegarding item location:
If you are using the eBay app, there is a setting under the Filter Customize menu that enables Lockable Filters. That allows you to lock your filter settings to be the default search behavior by tapping a padlock icon when you set your filter option.
If you are using a browser, eBay provides no lock options for Item Location.
However, if you are using certain desktop browsers, you may be able to use a third-party add-on such as "eBay item location -- my country only" which allows you to override eBay's "default" item location.
The "US only" item location filter selects items that are listed as being in the United States; however, as you may have seen, not every seller that lists items in the US ships from the US as they should. You can report such sellers for item location misrepresentation, but until eBay actually cracks down, your best course of action is to avoid such sellers entirely.
Before ordering you should check the estimated delivery dates -- that is usually a good indication of how far away items actually ship from. Also, going to a seller's profile page or feedback page will tell you where the seller's account was registered. If a seller is registered overseas, that raises the likelihood of an item shipping from outside the US, particularly for multiple quantity commodity items. Checking seller feedback will often reveal if there are problems with long shipping times, canceled orders or other supply chain warning signs.
