Customer Service just closed a ticket on clear credential harvesting/filter evasion.
Summary: aravah expresses frustration with Trust & Safety's handling of reports regarding a software seller's unscrupulous practices on eBay, such as demanding personal passwords and evading detection by altering text in messages. Despite providing direct message evidence and filing a formal report, eBay's customer service concluded that there was no policy violation. aravah is concerned about buyers' security and questions whether others have experienced similar oversight by customer service when evidence includes filter evasion.
I am reaching a point of total frustration with how Trust & Safety reports are handled.
I recently reported a software seller who sends messages to buyers demanding personal account login passwords, forcing account deletions, and requiring third-party VPNs to activate geo-restricted keys. To dodge eBay's automated scanning filters, the seller intentionally scrambles text (e.g., typing "e m a I l" with spaces).
I saved the direct messages, filed a formal report, and received Reference ID 2-109128351852.
Yesterday, I received an official update stating that a Customer Service representative reviewed the report and found NO POLICY VIOLATION.
How is off-platform credential harvesting, filter evasion, and forcing unauthorized VPN bypasses NOT a violation of eBay's safety terms? Line-level agents are clearly looking at public listing pages without auditing internal message logs. This puts buyers' security at risk, and line agents closing tickets without checking evidence condones active scams.
Has anyone else seen CS reps blatantly ignore direct message evidence when filter evasion is involved?
And then they wonder as to WHY? people are leaving Ebay and selling on other platforms.
