Question

I had several things listed and sold on eBay but as a new user I had some concerns. One being the need for my social security, bank info, and personal data to receive funds. It would seem to me Iâ€™m handing over my very intimate personal data to a company I have no information about other than they sell stuff.

I tried contacting them but went through the frustration of getting the AI runaround to be left no closer to an answer than I started.

My only alternative was apologizing to the would have been buyer and deleting my account.

The information that is requested, including the social security number, is to comply with the Federal Know Your customer laws.

The only way to sell on eBay is provide the required information.

Registering as a seller

"Individual sellers will need to provide:

Full name
Address, including country of residence (PO Boxes aren't accepted)
Date of birth
Social Security Number"
