Is it possible for ebay to staff someone with a Numismatic background to police scams?
the amount of postings with ridiculous prices and deceptive advertising for mere pocket change, is overwhelming.
It literally make me sick in the stomach to have to weed through this trash while shopping, not to mention the possibility that some unsuspecting person may pay exorbitant price for common pocket change. They should be liable for fraud prosecution. Instead, it appears Ebay gives them free reign.
I have spent over $200,000.00 over the past 15 years. This blatant, unchecked fraud, taints my Ebay experience to the point that I am going to explore other Coin purchasing avenues.

One problem with relying on eBay to screen out scam listings is that not all scam listings are obvious just by looking at the listing by itself. A scammer can copy a legitimate listing using a legitimate picture of a real coin, then deliver a counterfeit. Unless the buyer is able to recognize the fraud and acts in time to get a refund, the scammer may even get away with it.
The problem is that it is not possible for eBay -- or the potential buyer -- to look at a listing and immediately know whether the seller has the item on hand and intends to deliver it, or to deliver a counterfeit, or to deliver nothing but a fake tracking number.
Buyers can and should look at the seller's history for selling and make some educated guesses about the likelihood of the seller delivering based on past history and whether the deal is "too good to be true", but none of that constitutes proof of fraud until fraud actually takes place.
eBay removes many fraudulent listings, but not instantly. And even when a fraudulent listing is removed, that does not mean that a scammer will not list the same fraudulent item in a slightly different form from a different account.
No matter what eBay ultimately does, buyers would still need to vet their sellers carefully before making a purchase in order to avoid buying from a scammer.
