Credit card dispute
Summary: rosebud344 shared a concern about a transaction where a buyer returned a different item and then disputed the charge through their credit card. Despite having a strong history on eBay, they felt eBay should have offered more support. jacbarcollectibles explained that once a credit card company gets involved, eBay defers to their decision, often resulting in sellers losing such disputes and incurring a $20 fee.
I sold an item on July 5. Buyer received it and sent very snarky emails complaining that it was damaged. Photos on my listing show it was undamaged and it was brand new, never used. There was a death in my family that day, so I just told her to return it. She returned a different item. I opened a complaint on ebay; she never got involved in it. Then, she disputed the item through her credit card. I have been on ebay since 2000 and have 4400+ positive feedback. Shouldn't ebay have taken over this dispute, refunded me the money they held and deal with the credit card company through seller protection?

Mentor1 month agoUnfortunately that is not how seller protection works. Once the buyer went to their credit card company eBay defers to the decision of the credit card company and charges you a $20 fee to deal with the charge back. Since the credit card company usually sides with their client sellers almost always lose charge backs.
