Counterfeit Sunglasses
It seems that eBay has no interest in stopping the sale of counterfeit items or allowing a buyer who was scammed by a seller of Chinese fake items, once the transaction is 91 days old.
In late October, I bought a pair of "new" Maui Jim sunglasses from a seller named "lawr8742". They had the proper part number, were described as
New Maui Jim Kawika Polarized Sunglasses B257-05CR Crystal/Blue Hawaii Glass
I bought and paid for the sunglasses and received them. As I am not a professional store and just a consumer, everything seemed fine. Then in March, I learned that Maui Jim can replace the lenses with bi-focal readers that look exactly the same on the outside, so I paid to send them in to the Maui Jim repairs department.
One day after they were received, Maui Jim's repair department sent me a letter that they refused to provide the service because the sunglasses were fake counterfeit copies and not legitimate Maui Jim sunglasses and they were returning them to me.
Apparently, this seller shipped fake Chinese copies of the real sunglasses to me and I was not aware.
Because I was not aware of this until I sent them in for the replacement lenses, eBay's listing no longer gave me any opportunity to "rate" the seller, to "return and/or report" the seller, or do anything about this.
For their part, neither did Paypal, who said after only 30 days, they would do nothing.
I have the original letter on Maui Jim letterhead that was in the box with the sunglasses that were returned to me.
This seller has not responded to any messages that I have sent.
This seller has many other Maui Jim and Rayban sunglasses on his eBay "store".
Other than assuming I needed to authenticate an item I bought by running into a Maui Jim store, I don't know what else I could have done, but eBay has no live phone number or support that seems to care at all that this seller shipped me fake, counterfeit sunglasses.

Mentor5 months agoSorry this happened to you. However, the eBay Money Back Guaranty is only good for 30 days from receipt of the item. Although eBay does allow the seller to make refunds for up to 90 days from purchase eBay cannot force any refund after 30 days have passed. Check with your payment source to see if you still have time to ask for a charge back. This is usually limited to 180 days from purchase but can be shorter.
