counterfeit policy - authentic item listing removed
I listed an item that I believe to be authentic and ebay cancelled it - counterfeit policy but I thought that their authenticity verification program would verify authenticity when the item sold. I am confused.

It's a federal crime to sell counterfeit items.
Don't list items unless you KNOW it's not counterfeit (preferably you purchased it from the manufacturer or an authorized retailer and have the receipt or you are an expert at authenticating that item). Don't depend on eBay authentication to determine whether the item is authentic. eBay authentication protects the buyer, not the seller. If you develop of history of selling counterfeits, you may find yourself no long an eBay seller.

OP4 months agoThank you for your help, I really appreciate it. I have a very good reputation on eBay and I value that, but I buy a lot of my items at estate sales and auctions with no guarantees. I would never list an item that I thought to be counterfeit but I don't know how to go about getting the few very good items that I come across authenticated. I thought that's what the authenticity program did for the buyer and the seller. I will investigate further how to get something authenticated.

Otherwise you would have to research authenticity services and pay. Keep in mind that even if an item is authenticated by a third party eBay may still remove it.

Mentor4 months ago@sparetreasures You have to do your best to make sure that all items you list for sale are authentic. You can not list items that may be counterfeit and then wait for the authenticity program to check it. This is not how the site works and it is also bad for your account to have an item refused at the authentication center.
Do NOT try to relist or you can be suspended.
